3-(coumarin-4-yl)-5-(substituted benzoyl)-2-(3H)-furanones have been prepared from 3-(substituted benzoyl propionic acid and coumarin-4-aldehyde and characterized on the basis of IR, 1H NMR and mass spectrometric data. Some of the compounds have been tested for antibacterial activity.
