Description :
The crop mung bean is popular among agriculture crop because of its high protein value which has high digestibility, good flavor and high protein content and is free from flatulent effects. India reports more than two-third of the world production of Vigna. Despite of more than two-third of the world production of Vigna radiata L. The national average grain yield is very low compared to the world average. It has also been reported that the production of mung bean has not increased significantly during last three decades despite the continuous effort of the plant breeders by conventional method. The present work is done to standardize the different strengths of M S media i.e. half strength and full strength and Hormone free media and cytokinin concentrations alone & in combination with auxin on in vitro regeneration of mung bean i.e. Vigna radiata (L). It was observed that increasing concentration of BAP i.e. from 5mg/L - 10 mg/L BAP alone enhanced shooting response i.e. 90% & 95% respectively. The results of the study also show the superiority of MS and ½ MS medium supplemented with combined concentration of auxin & cytokinin BAP (5mg/L NAA and 10mg/L BAP) on shooting i.e.94%, this played effective action on differentiation process. The best root initiation (90%) was observed in ½ Ms medium supplemented with 1 mg/L and 5 mg/ L IBA. The study suggests that the type of explant & selection of Growth hormone and its concentration plays important role in shoot & root regeneration.
