Description :
Dicotyledonous fossil wood collected from Takli. Wood diffuse porous, growth ring inconspicuous, vessels solitary, perforations plate simple, intervascular pits alternate, bordered, contiguous with lenticular apertures, tylosed,xylem parenchyma paratracheal vasicentric, 2-3 layered forming complete sheath around the vessels, apotracheal parenchyma narrow forming reticulum with adjacent rays; xylem rays 1-3 seriate, uniseriates spares, homogenous, 8-10 erect cells, multiseriate rays 2-3 seriate, heterogenous, 2-6 cells wide, medullary ray pits similar to intervessel pits, fibres septate, 0.6-0.8 mm long, 25-30 µ broad, fibre well 4-6µ thick. The present wood is closely related to family Lecythidaceae as it is new species Barringtonioxylon intertrappum sps.nov. The species name after the horizon deccan intertrappean beds.
