Description :
Abstract: In this work, we synthesized a variedly imidazole derivatives. The first stage showed the preparation of 4-methoxybenzoin by reacting 4-methoxybezaldehyde with benzaldehyde in presence of sodium cyanide as a catalyst in ethanol as a solvent. The second stage, showed the synthesized 4-methoxybenzil using conc.nitric acid as an oxidizing. In third stage the preparation of 2-(Substituted phenyl)-(4-methoxyphenyl)-5-phenyl-1H-imidazole was carried out by the condensation between 4-methoxybenzil, substituted benzadehyde and ammonium acetate in glacial acetic acid as a solvent. The synthesized compounds were evaluated for their antimicrobial activity using Gram positive and Gram negative bacteria and found to be antimicrobial drugs. All synthesized compounds were characterized by melting point,IR,1HNMR spectral and elemental analysis. Keywords: 4-substituted benzil, Imidazole derivatives, Antimicrobial activity.
