Description :
The freshwater molluscans are widely distributed in Satara district. The present study is aimed to Assess the diversity, distribution and abundance of molluscans in Kanher water reservoires of Satara, during March 2015 to February 2016. 212 species of molluscans were reported in India (Subba Rao 1989) out of these 60 species were recorded in Western Ghats (Shivaramakrishnan et al. 1998), Eight molluscans are observed in the Kanher water reservoir. Parreysia corrugate (Mueller), Lamellidens marginalis (Lamarek), Bellamya bengalensis (Lamarck), Indoplanorbis exustus (Deshayes), Melanoides tuberculata (Muller), Lymnaea (pseudosuccinea) luteola (Lamarck), Lymnea stagnalis (Linnaeus) and Tarebia lineate (Gray) belonging to 4 families were obtained during study. Species richness and abundance were surveyed at three sites and each site was sampled at ten spots like wise 30 spots around the Kanher water reservoir were studied for diversity, distribution and abundance. Lamellidens marginalis were widely distributed across the surveyed sites, while Indoplanorbis exustus, Melanoides tuberculata and Lymnea stagnalis was rare. The highest species richness was identified at site number 01 and 02. Keywords: Abundance, Diversity, mollusca.
