Abstract :
Urinary tract infection is most common infection found of all age group in all genders. Plants shows medicinal properties and used as medicine from ancient years in around the world. Hemidesmus indicusis one of the medicinal plant shows antibacterial activity against urinary pathogens. In our study total 40 clean catch urine sample was collected from the indoor and outdoor patients from various hospitals and pathology laboratories in chandrapur area and roots of Hemidesmus indicus was collected from agricultural land of Gondpipari taluka of chandrapur district. In-vitro antibacterial activity was conducted by using methanol extract of Hemidesmus indicus against the bacterial strains isolated from urine samples. Methanol extract at conc. 2ug/ul shows more activity against most of the bacterial strains isolated from urine samples. The effect produced by methanol extract of Hemidesmus indicus was compaired with nitrofurantoin.
The study revealed that the Hemidesmus indicus can be effective against the pathogens causing urinary tract infection and it helpful the doctors to treat the patients suffering from urinary tract infection.
