Description :
A new family of novel optical glasses 10ZnO - 5Na 2 CO 3 - 10Bi 2 O 3 – (75 - x) B 2 O 3 – xEu 2 O 3 (x =0, 0.1, 0.5, 1, 1.5, 2, 3 mol %), are synthesized by melt quench technique. Optical properties were investigated for their luminescence behavior through various spectroscopic techniques such as UV - Vis – NIR absor ption, excitation, emission, decay profiles and color measurements at room temperature. Judd – Ofelt intensity parameters [Ω 2 , Ω 4 ] estimated form PL spectra were used to predict the lasing properties of the glasses like total radiative life time, branching ratio, emission cross - section and optical gain. From the measured values of emission cross - sections, branching ratios, and strong photoluminescence features, 0.5mol% of Eu 3+ ions doped ZnNaBiB glasses showed optimum performance and are potential novel opti cal luminescent material for red light generation at 613 nm.
